Paschal Candles
A candle is a cylinder of wax or tallow containing a wick, used for illumination or for ceremonial purposes. Early translations, though inconclusive for the word candle may have been torch or lamp and the "candlestick" was probably a stand for one of these lights. Now we also have candle lighters, consecration candle holders, many versions of candelabras and different accessories for the candle. The Paschal candle is sometimes referred to as the "Easter candle" or the "Christ candle." The term "Paschal" comes from the word Pesach, which in Hebrew means Passover.
